The Department of Computer and Systems Sciences of the Stockholm University offers a PhD studentship on exploring information searching in augmented (AR) and virtual reality (VR) in different domains. Please see the details here:
Short about the Project
This project will explore how information at various stages of the search process, can be presented and designed in 3-dimensional spaces (e.g. virtual reality, VR) like for example head-mounted displays (HMDs, VR-helmets). The project will investigate how information in 3-dimensional spaces can support the user interaction in information-related activities such as information need formation, navigation, searching, relevance assessments, presentation of search results, decision making and information synthesis. Through immersive technologies, we will explore how the human search for and interact with information entities and information systems in different contexts. Different contexts possess various properties such as level of dynamics and complexities and will make demands on spatial cognition as well as on the ability to act and make informed decisions in situations, such as those under stress or excitement (pulse, EEG, etc). For example, VR are used in many training facilities such as pilot training and autonomous cars.
